Evidence-based practice consists of five steps:
1. Ask a searchable clinical question;
2. Find the best evidence to answer the question;
3. Appraise the evidence;
4. Apply the evidence with clinical expertise, taking the patient's wants/needs into consideration;
5. Evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of the process.

Evidence-Based Practice Models
"Nurses and other healthcare professionals have developed several evidence-based practice (EBP) models that aid in the implementation of EBP. These models serve as organizing guides that integrate the most current research to create best patient care practices."
ECPI University has adopted the Johns Hopkins Model for Evidence Based Practice to frame clinical inquiry initiatives.

EBP is a problem-solving approach to clinical decision-making within a healthcare organization. It integrates the best available scientific evidence with the best available experiental (patient and practitioner) evidence.

Practice Question- Develop and refine your question.
Evidence- Search, appraise, summarize, and synthesize internal and external sources of information.
Translation- Create and implement an action plan, evaluate outcomes, disseminate findings.
