What is National Hispanic Heritage Month?

National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated by Americans across the nation.
The celebration began in 1968, under President Lyndon B. Johnson.
Celebrating the independence of Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Belize.
Recognizing the achievements Hispanic Americans have made in science, education, the arts and politics.

Who is Hispanic?
"Hispanic self-identification varies across immigrant generations. Among the foreign born from Latin America, nearly all self-identify as Hispanic. But by the fourth generation, only half of people with Hispanic heritage in the U.S. self-identify as Hispanic" (Pew Research Center, 2020).
