Introduction to Résumés

What is a résumé?

"A résumé is a brief document that summarizes your education, employment history, and experiences that are relevant to your qualifications for a particular job for which you are applying. The purpose of your résumé is to impress the professionals and recruiters who will be making a decision on your candidacy for employment" (Purdue OWL, 2014).

What should be included in a résumé?

The basic sections that almost every résumé must have are your objective (i.e. brief statement of the purpose for your résumé), education, work experience, and contact information. In addition, you may also want to include sections that detail your skills and achievements, such as honors/awards, certifications, professional memberships, computer skills, community service, etc.

*Note: There is no one correct way to style, compose or format your résumé...Please see your campus's Career Services Director for more information.
