​NICET Level I is for trainees and entry-level technicians who perform limited job tasks under frequent supervision. 

This certification program is designed for engineering technicians and persons working in the fire alarm industry who engage in a combination of fire alarm system activities including layout, equipment selection, installation, acceptance testing, troubleshooting, system servicing, and system technical sales.

Technical areas covered include applicable codes and standards, types of detectors and signaling systems, supervision requirements, power requirements, building/space structure and occupancy considerations, and basic electricity and electronics.

It is anticipated that most Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) who have accepted this Certification as evidence of qualification to perform maintenance/periodic inspections of fire alarm systems will continue to do so. Certification can and does help with career advancement.

General Exam Information

Fire Alarm System – Level I Exam (10007)

  • Student Cost: $225*
  • Number of questions: 83
  • Format: multiple choice computer based standard exam
  • Test Length: 110 minutes
  • Passing Score: 500 (on a 0-700 scale)

Certification Criteria
  •  Pass Level I exam.
  •  Minimum of 3 months of technical experience with fire detection and signaling systems.
  • Supervisor verification of work experience

The NICET Fire Alarm certification exam is proctored at Person VUE Testing Centers.

 
A Pearson VUE® Authorized Test Center is available in most major cities. It does not matter which center is used for the NICET Exam. 
 
Pearson VUE delivers certification exams through the world’s most comprehensive and secure network of test centers in 175 countries. Test center hours of operation vary by location. A Test Center Administrator registers and proctors exams.
